DBT Skills Dialectics || cultivating both acceptance & change

Acceptance skills | mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness

Mindfulness Module:
These skills teach us the ability to consciously experience and observe ourselves and the surrounding events with curiosity and without judgment; to see and articulate reality as it is, without distortion; and to participate in the flow of the
 present moment effectively.

We practice mindfulness throughout the entire program and the skills are revisited specifically at the beginning of each skills group.

Interpersonal Effectiveness Module:
These skills help us strengthen current relationships and they allow us to connect with new people. They teach us how to deal with conflict situations, to get what we want and need, and to say no to unwanted requests and demands - all this in a way that maintains our self-respect and others' liking and respect for us. We learn how to maintain positive relationships and how to end destructive relationships.

These skills help us walk a middle path, balancing acceptance with change in ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Change skills | emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

Emotion Regulation Module:
These skills help us enhance the control we have over our emotions, even though complete control cannot be achieved. To a certain extent, we are who we are, and humans are emotional by nature. We can, however, regulate them. With these skills, we learn to respond as opposed to react. We become less emotionally vulnerable and learn to cope ahead of life stressors. Even greatly manage intense anger, decrease feelings of emptiness, increase feelings of worthiness,

and know what to do with our emotions when they arise.

These skills allow us to identify over 10 different emotions.

Distress Tolerance Module:
These skills give us the ability to tolerate unwanted situations and feelings without making them worse; they greatly reduce suffering. They allow us to tolerate and survive crises situations, painful events, urges and emotions when we cannot make them better right away. With these skills, we learn how to change our body's chemistry to rapidly regulate extreme emotions. We counter maladaptive problem-solving, become adaptive and even reduce addictive behaviors.

These skills provide healthy coping skills to combat stress.

There are over 50 skills throughout the modules that are

available to you with the help of Awakening Paths.
